View is west showing the full east elevation of San Fernando Cathedral, the empty plaza, the Southern Hotel to the south of the cathedral, the Dolorosa Street car tracks, the T.C. Frost building 1871 just north of the cathedral and the “Bat Cave” (1852) on Military Plaza in the background. The Koch “Birdseye Map” of 1886 accurately depicts the plaza, to include the curve of the tracks.
