Taken from a point along or close to S New Braunfels showcasing the asylum. Later photographs after the 1912 expansion show the main building having lost its bell tower and trees and grass reaching to New Braunfels. Established in 1892 and eventually being named the Texas State Hospital. The facility has maintained its original location at S. New Braunfels and Pecan Valley Drive.

Panoram was the trademark name of a visual jukebox that played music accompanied by a synched, filmed image (the effect being the equivalent of 1980s music videos) popular within the United States during the 1940s. The device consisted of a jukebox playing a closed-loop 16mm film reel projected onto a glass screen (Wikipedia).

The old Police Headquarters and Detective building (occupied 1927-1963) is the red building with the white top directly east (to the right) of the original portion of the courthouse.

The spokes would loosen and the metal “tire” (the rim) around the outside of the wheel (the felloe) would slip off.

Taken from a building across Commerce showcasing the widening of Commerce Street and particularly the raising and moving of the Alamo National Bank at the SW corner of Commerce and S. Presa. It is said that the 8000-ton building was raised by 1800 screw jacks, placed on 1600 rollers and then pushed back 17 feet. That much is fact. The legend says it was all done while not disturbing bank business inside. Another part of the same legend says once it was on the rollers it was drawn over and let down onto blocks of dry ice which as they evaporated, allowed the building to settle.

St. Joseph’s Church still has its rectory (with St. Mary’s Street alongside) and has not yet been encircled.
