Photo crop exposure date: unknown.Exposure date (or window) of subject photo: ca. 1897Subject: Photo crop of a street scene with a handwritten ascription. View is ENE across Main and Military Plazas. Taken from the observatory of City Hall showcasing the view of the city. In the foreground just south of the Silver King Saloon and behind (west) of the Frost Bank building is a type of rental unit known as a “corral.” On the NW corner of Main Plaza is the L. Wolfson (dry goods) building and to it, moving east, is what was at one time, the White Elephant Saloon, which by the time of the photograph had been purchased by Wolfson in an expansion. The massive Kampmann Building sits on the NE corner of Commerce, Soledad and Main Plaza. Both the City Council and the District Courts had been tenants at one time. The building north on Soledad with the twin mansard towers is the former Bexar County Courthouse. The park, the northern portion of which can just be seen in the middle of Main Plaza means that the new Bexar County Courthouse (1897) on the south side of Main Plaza has been completed.
